Vol. 536 No. 6

Written Answers. - IDA Restructuring.

John Perry

Ceist:

139 Mr. Perry asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if Sligo will be affected under the restructuring of the Industrial Development Authority Ireland; the changes that will occur; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [15198/01]

IDA Ireland has completed an extensive strategic review of its current mission and strategy in the light of the changes occurring in its traditional FDI or foreign direct investment markets, and in Irish economic and regional conditions arising from our national success over the past decade. The new strategy direction for the agency is consistent with the Government's key objective of significantly improving the distribution of quality jobs to regional locations.

With regard to Sligo, IDA Ireland plans to place additional staff resources in Sligo commencing 1 September next. Parts of the international services and the engineering and consumer div isions of the agency will be located in the town with approximately 15 posts being transferred from Dublin.
