Vol. 537 No. 1

Written Answers. - Health Levy.

Nora Owen

Ceist:

112 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Finance if people over 70 years of age who qualify for medical cards from 1 July 2001 will be exempt from paying the 2% health levy irrespective of their income. [15438/01]

I announced in the budget that everyone aged 70 years and over will be entitled to a medical card. Under the current rules medical card holders are not liable for the health levy contribution and there are no plans to change this position.
