Vol. 537 No. 2

Written Answers. - Orthodontic Service.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

216 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 359 of 20 March 2001, and the reply from the Midland Health Board of 17 May 2001, he will state the reason for the average of two years waiting time for orthodontic treatment of a person (details supplied) in County Carlow; if he will expedite this case; and when she will receive the treatment required. [15683/01]

The provision of orthodontic services to the person referred to by the Deputy is the statutory responsibility of the Midland Health Board. I have been informed by the chief executive officer of the board that the average waiting time for orthodontic treatment in that health board at 31 of March 2001 was 17 months. I have asked the chief executive officer to investigate the position in relation to this case and to reply directly to the Deputy as a matter of urgency.
