Vol. 537 No. 2

Written Answers. - Local Authority Loans.

Seymour Crawford

Ceist:

276 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of local authority tenants who are paying the fixed interest charge as imposed at the time of high interest rates; if he has proposals to deal with this issue; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15676/01]

My Department is currently updating a survey of local authority fixed rate house purchase loans to ensure that it includes full data on fixed rate tenant purchase loans, which it is understood some local authorities omitted from their original replies to a survey undertaken last year. A copy of the full results of the updated survey, including tenant purchase loans, will be forwarded to the Deputy and placed in the Oireachtas Library as soon as they become available. The issue of these high fixed interest rate loans will be considered further in the light of the results of this survey.
