Vol. 537 No. 2

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Donal Carey

Ceist:

424 Mr. D. Carey asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received an application from Kildysart community college, County Clare, for funding; and when the process for seeking tenders for the new college can commence. [15936/01]

Officials in the building unit of my Department are currently examining the stage 4/5 submission – detailed design and bill of quantities – for this project. County Clare VEC has also been authorised to advertise the project in order to pre-qualify contractors and sub-contractors. When this process is complete, a decision can be made on the invitation of tenders.

Ceist:

427 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will consider the provision of a secondary school for Kill, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15944/01]

There are no plans at present to provide a post-primary school in Kill. For the purpose of post-primary education, Kill forms part of the Naas catchment area. Following an evaluation of post-primary school accommodation requirements in the area, building projects were approved for all three schools in Naas. These projects are now at various stages of development.

It is envisaged that, when these projects are completed, there will be sufficient accommodation to meet future needs at post-primary level in the Naas catchment area, including Kill. However, the position will be kept under review by the planning section of my Department in the light of enrolment and demographic trends in the area.

428 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science the position in relation to the provision of an extension to, or a new site for Kill national school, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15945/01]

The property management section of the Office of Public Works is acting on behalf of my Department in relation to site acquisitions generally and is currently exploring the possibility of acquiring a site for Kill national school, County Kildare. It is not possible at this stage to give any indication of the time scale for the completion of the acquisition. The school authorities will be kept informed of developments.
