Vol. 537 No. 2

Written Answers. - Proposed Legislation.

Willie Penrose

Ceist:

76 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the progress of the consultation process on the document, Towards A New Framework for Arts; if the consultations have concluded; when she expects to produce an Arts Bill; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [15739/01]

In excess of 230 submissions were received in response to the publication of the document referred to by the Deputy. Subsequently, a consultation seminar was held on 11 and 12 May, in the course of which over 30 key players in the arts sector made detailed input on the issues arising in the context of reviewing the Arts Acts, following which those who had made the submissions and other interested parties were invited to a plenary discussion seminar.

I hope to bring my proposals for new arts legislation to Government in the coming weeks, having taken into consideration the views that have emerged from the consultative processes to date.
