Vol. 537 No. 2

Written Answers. - EU Treaties.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

125 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if the approval of the Nice Treaty will in any way prevent a future Government from holding a referendum on the question of abortion or, in no way, diminish the right to have such decisions made in future referenda; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15714/01]

I can assure the Deputy that there is nothing in the Treaty of Nice which touches in any manner on the issue of abortion, and that a decision by the people to approve the constitutional amendment relating to the Treaty of Nice will in no way preclude any future action, including a referendum to amend the Constitution, in relation to this issue.
