Vol. 537 No. 4

Written Answers. - Sports Funding.

David Stanton

Ceist:

151 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the amount of money which was made available under the sports capital programme for 2000; the number of applicants; the total amount requested by the applicants under the programme; the total amount of money under the programme which has been spent to date; the number of projects which have been completed or are under way at present; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16361/01]

Under the 2000 sports capital programme administered by my Department I allocated a total of £35.83 million in grants to 679 projects around the country. I had received 1,645 applications for the programme, requesting a total of £183.30 million in funding.

Projects which were funded in 2000 have until 28 September 2001 to submit and have approved all of the relevant documentation required under the terms and conditions of the sports capital programme. A substantial amount of the work should be completed by this date in order to facilitate the draw down of the grants.

The total expenditure under the programme in 2000 was £12.3 million and to date in 2001 a total of £6.32 million has been spent. These payments cover grants allocated in 2000 and in previous years.
