Vol. 537 No. 4

Written Answers. - Hospital Doctors.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

88 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will make a statement on the situation reported in a publication (details supplied) dated 16 May 2001 that the majority of hospitals across the country have yet to establish any consultative mechanisms involving non-consultant hospital doctors. [16369/01]

Under the agreement concluded with non-consultant hospital doctors, it was agreed by the parties that a formal system for consultation should be established at hospital level. Difficulties have been encountered in putting this process on a formal footing in some hospitals. However, health service employers are committed to involving non-consultant hospital doctors in the consultative process and where this mechanism is not already established, the urgency of doing so will be reiterated.
