Vol. 537 No. 5

Written Answers. - Catchment Management Projects.

David Stanton

Ceist:

156 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the amount made available for catch management in 2000 and 2001; if he will give a breakdown as to the way in which this money has been spent to date; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17088/01]

I have made significant additional funding available through the fisheries boards to support catchment management projects in co-operation with local stakeholders. A total of £1.9 million was spent by the fisheries boards in 2000 on a range of projects throughout the country. In particular, the fisheries boards collectively invested a sum of £244,000 in the provision of geographical information systems which are essential tools for fisheries management and a sum of £125,000 on a sustained public awareness campaign for catchment management involving the production and promotion of a suite of material entitled "From Source to Sea" which consisted of a brochure, video and a poster.
