Vol. 537 No. 5

Written Answers. - Naval Boat Transport Service.

David Stanton

Ceist:

202 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Defence his views on whether the naval boat transport service which operates out of Haulbowline Naval Base has provided a satisfactory service over the years; the size and number of boats involved; the number employed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17086/01]

The naval boat transport service provides a transport link between Haulbowline, Cobh and Monkstown for military personnel and civilian employees who work in or are required to visit the naval base and dockyard.

The service comprises one passenger carrying vessel, two auxiliary vessels and a tug. The current strength of permanent civilian employees engaged in providing this service is 23. This complement is augmented from time to time as the need arises from a panel of temporary employees.
