Vol. 537 No. 5

Written Answers. - General Practitioner Allowances.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

290 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he proposes to introduce a special allowance to be paid to general practitioners caring for patients in nursing homes similar to the palliative care fee. [16563/01]

I have no plans at present to introduce a special allowance to be paid to general practitioners caring for their patients who are residents of nursing homes. The current position is that doctors are paid a capitation fee for all patients on their panel, including those in nursing homes. However, an extra allowance is payable in respect of visits to nursing homes as these are regarded as domiciliary visits.
