Vol. 539 No. 1

Written Answers. - Television Reception.

Cecilia Keaveney

Ceist:

341 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the reasons areas of Inishowen in County Donegal have poor coverage of RTE; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18667/01]

The issue raised by the Deputy in relation to RTE coverage is the day to day responsibility of the RTE Authority and I have no statutory function in the matter. In accordance with long-standing custom, I am prepared to furnish to the House information supplied by RTE in response to questions relating specifically to improvements in reception of RTE's national broadcasting services.

RTE informs me that, generally, good quality reception of RTE 1, Network 2 and TG4 is available in the Inishowen Peninsula of County Donegal except in a number of small areas such as Cross, Quigley's Point, Speenogue and Burt where reception is very marginal. RTE is aware of the difficulties in the aforementioned areas and is examining ways of improving reception in them.
