Vol. 539 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

387 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will report on the transport arrangements for a person (details supplied) in County Cork; and if supervised transport will continue to be available to this person funded by the State for the future. [18597/01]

My Department sanctioned a transport grant for the family of the pupil referred to by the Deputy towards private transport arrangements in September 1999 when he enrolled in a special school.

I understand that the board of management of the school in question assist with certain transport arrangements for pupils unable to travel on the special school transport service, including the pupil referred to by the Deputy.

I have asked my officials to make contact with the school authorities regarding these transport arrangements and to review supports in place. Following this process, officials of my Department will be in contact with the family of the pupil concerned.
