I am committed to the introduction of a system of statutory regulation for complementary therapists. As a first step in this process I convened a forum on Wednesday 20 June 2001 comprised of relevant professional bodies and training providers, to examine and explore the practical issues involved in preparing a system of statutory registration for these therapists. I have asked the Institute of Public Administration, who facilitated the forum, to prepare a report of the discussions that took place on the day. This report will be forwarded to the participants and any other interested parties for consideration and response over the summer. On the basis of these responses, I hope to be in a position to further progress the issue.
