Vol. 540 No. 1

Written Answers. - Direct Purchase Scheme.

Seymour Crawford

Ceist:

199 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the number of animals which have been bought by valuers from tuberculosis or brucellosis reactor herds under the new direct purchase scheme; the percentage of reactors which come out under this scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19643/01]

The on-farm market valuation scheme has been phased in since early 2001 for certain breakdown situations that occurred on or after 1 January 2001. During the phasing in period, herdowners meeting the eligibility requirements are offered compensation either by way of live valuation or the current reactor grant arrangements. To date 282 herdowners have availed of the live valuation option and approximately 10,650 reactors have been valued out of a total of approximately 18,000 reactors that have been disclosed. Therefore about 60% of reactors have been valued to date.
