Written Answers. - Hospitals Building Programme.

Cecilia Keaveney

Ceist:

276 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Health and Children the position regarding an Alzheimer's unit (details supplied) in County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19893/01]

The North-Western Health Board, which is responsible for the provision of health services in Donegal, has informed me that planning for the development of the Alzheimer's unit at Carndonagh continues, and the appointed architects are finalising plans prior to proceeding to the planning stage.

The board also states that some artefacts have been identified on the site and archaeological advice has been sought. Although it is not anticipated that these artefacts will impact on the location of the unit, as planned, the archaeologist's report on the site is awaited as work on the site will require careful excavation and monitoring.
