Vol. 540 No. 1

Written Answers. - Hospital Waiting Lists.

Billy Timmins

Ceist:

296 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Health and Children the way in which the hospital waiting lists are drafted; the identity of the persons who draft the lists; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20156/01]

Information on public hospital waiting lists are collated on a quarterly basis by officers in my Department from data supplied by health agencies. Published data is broken down into total fig ures for each hospital, for each health board and for each specialty. Comparative figures for previous quarters and for previous years together with percentage increases and decreases are also presented.

Data on waiting times are also collected in relation to the nine waiting list target specialties. The waiting times for these target specialties show the number of adults waiting for procedures in the following two categories: those waiting between three and 12 months and those waiting more than 12 months. The waiting times for children are also supplied in two categories – those waiting between three and six months and those waiting more than six months.

A copy of the most recent waiting list figures is being communicated to the Deputy.
