Ceist:

329 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has received recommendations for designated taxi locations in the Castlebar UDC area from the Garda Commissioner as recommended by Castlebar UDC; if he will approve the recommendations immediately in order to avoid parking difficulties in the town; and if he will make a statement on the matter. A draft of the Castlebar Appointed Stands (Street Service Vehicles) By-Laws, 2001, was submitted to my Department by the Garda Commissioner on 21 June 2001 and, following an examination of the draft text in my Department, a number of suggestions in relation to the by-laws have been forwarded to the Commissioner on 28 June 2001 for consideration.

When the by-laws are signed by the Garda Commissioner, they will then be submitted formally to me for approval. In order to allow for consultation with the local authorities concerned, a period of one month must then expire before I can approve the by-laws.
