331 Mr. Kenneally asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number on the housing list in each housing authority area as a percentage of the total population of that area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19931/01]

The results of the statutory assessment of housing needs undertaken by local authorities at the end of March 1999 indicated a total of 39,176 households in need of local authority housing. A detailed breakdown of this figure is published in my Department's September quarter 1999 housing statistics bulletin, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library.

As the waiting lists for local authority housing are expressed in terms of households which in the majority of cases consist of more than one person, information on the comparison of households with the population of individual areas is not maintained by my Department.
