Vol. 540 No. 1

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Billy Timmins

Ceist:

349 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the situation regarding the Hacketstown water scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20147/01]

I have approved the Carlow County Council's tender recommendation for the supply network contract for this scheme and it is now a matter for the council to progress these works to construction.

The water treatment plant will be procured using a design build and operate contract. The council's tender recommendation for this element of the scheme is awaited by my Department.

Ceist:

350 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the situation regarding the Arklow sewerage scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20148/01]

The Arklow sewerage scheme is included in the Water Services Investment Programme, 2000-2002, as a project to commence construction in 2001.

The grant of planning permission for the proposed sewage treatment works is currently the subject of High Court proceedings and a third party appeal to An Bord Pleanála. Further progress with the scheme is dependent on the outcome of these proceedings.
