Vol. 540 No. 1

Written Answers. - Affordable Housing Scheme.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

352 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of houses built and occupied through the affordable housing programme in each local authority area; if he has satisfied himself that progress to date has made a sufficient and positive impact on the overall issues; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20167/01]

Information on activity under the affordable housing scheme, including the number of houses completed, is published in my Department's housing statistics bulletins, copies of which are available in the Library. Initially, progress under the scheme was slow and, against this background, the income qualifying limits and mortgage subsidy levels were increased with effect from 15 June 2000. In addition, a subsidy in respect of the site cost and development was introduced. There has been an expansion in activity under the scheme since then and I am confident that the number of houses completed will increase significantly over the next few years.
