Vol. 540 No. 1

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Paul McGrath

Ceist:

371 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if a consultant's report has been sent to his Department by Westmeath County Council recommending that the public water supply at Moate, County Westmeath, could be augmented by the provision of a connection to the existing water supply at Ballymore, County Westmeath; if so, the date that this report was received in his Department; the reason for the delay in approving this scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20223/01]

The consultant's report for this scheme was submitted to my Department by Westmeath County Council on 5 April 2001, and will be examined in the context of the next phase of the water services investment programme which I am currently considering. The proposal was not included in the list of schemes submitted by the council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake a fresh assessment of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessment. These priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the Water Services Investment Programme 2000-2002, announced last July.
