Vol. 540 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Cecilia Keaveney

Ceist:

434 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reason a Border Garda station (details supplied) in County Donegal is without a patrol car and is therefore unable to provide a service to its community; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20017/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of personnel and resources to individual areas, that there are three vehicles assigned to Lifford Garda station – one Ford Transit used for foot and mouth disease precautions, one patrol car for routine patrolling and one detective branch vehicle. Lifford is in the Garda district of Letterkenny which has a total of 27 vehicles. The allocation of vehicles to Letterkenny is comparable to other districts of similar size and population.
