446 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation when he will again allocate funding under the sports capital programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19945/01]
447 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if existing applications for funding will be held over; if not, if new applications will have to be submitted; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19946/01]
I propose to take Questions Nos. 446 and 447 together.
The sports capital programme for 2001 was advertised in mid-December 2000 with a closing date of 9 February 2001 for the receipt of completed applications. In excess of 1,450 applications were received and assessed against the programme's criteria, following which I announced, on 7 June, the allocation of £40 million to 680 projects under the programme. Accordingly, the programme for 2001 is now closed and any organisation seeking further funding, including those who applied unsuccessfully this year, will have to apply under the 2002 programme, which I intend to advertise later this year.
