308 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the housing authorities which have submitted either a completed housing strategy or a draft housing strategy; and if he will state, in respect of each such strategy, the shortfall of affordable housing using the Louth model strategy for each year of the strategy. [19580/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 90 and 306 to 308, inclusive, together.

In accordance with Part V of the Planning and Development Act, 2000, planning authorities have until the end of July 2001 to prepare their housing strategies. They then, in accordance with guidelines from my Department, have a further three months to vary their development plans. Based on end-May returns to my Department, all local authorities expect to complete their strategies by the end of July deadline.

Housing strategies have already been adopted by Dublin Corporation and by Fingal, South Dublin, Dún Laoghaire Rathdown and Meath County Councils. The latter two authorities are in the process of varying their development plans to incorporate their strategies. I propose to circulate in the Official Report a tabular statement summarising the detailed information sought in relation to the above five strategies in so far as it is available to my Department.

On the basis that housing strategies for other planning authorities have not yet been finalised, although some have been forwarded in draft to my Department for comment, it would be premature at this stage to provide detailed information in these cases along the lines in the tabular statement.
