Vol. 540 No. 1

Written Answers. - Water Quality.

Jim Higgins

Ceist:

120 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if a re-appraisal of the grant aid available for the improvement of water supplies to domestic dwellings is taking place; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15623/01]

In March 2000 I increased the level of group water scheme grants from 75% of cost, subject to a cost limit of £1,600 per house, to 85% of cost with a limit of £6,000 per house. At the same time I introduced a new 100% capital grant for the provision of essential water treatment and disinfection equipment for privately sourced group water schemes, together with significant increases in the annual subsidy towards groups' operational costs.

The current maximum grant for the provision or upgrading of an individual water supply to a house is £1,600 and I have no proposals at present to increase the grant.
