Vol. 540 No. 3

Written Answers. - Remedial Works.

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

239 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if Dúchas will take charge of Kilsheelan Church and graveyard, County Tipperary, for the purposes of essential remedial work; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [20559/01]

The information available to me indicates that Kilsheelan Church and graveyard is in the care of the local authority. The responsibility for its upkeep is, therefore, a matter for that body.

My remit is confined to conserving and maintaining those national monuments and historic properties that are already in my care and which number 740 sites. All available resources are fully committed to these for the foreseeable future. While I have no plans to take charge of Kilsheelan Church and graveyard, my officials are available for advice regarding any proposed remedial works to this site.
