Vol. 540 No. 3

Written Answers. - Arts Funding.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

263 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the extent to which she is financially involved in the promotion of arts festivals; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [20754/01]

State support for the promotion for the arts, including arts festivals is a matter for the Arts Council, which is an independent autonomous body and I have no function in the matter. The funding that I have available relates mainly to supporting the development of arts infrastructure by way of capital grant schemes.

asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the extent to which she has awarded funds from the proceeds of the national lottery towards the promotion of the arts; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [20755/01]

There is an amount of £11 million from the national lottery fund being provided to the Arts Council as part of its overall funding of £36.519 million in 2001. The disbursement of these funds is solely a matter for the Arts Council.
