Vol. 541 No. 2

Written Answers. - Medical Cards.

Noel Ahern

Ceist:

527 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will bring forward measures to offer a reduced cost for obtaining a driving licence for a person over 70 years of age, or arrange that the cost of the doctor's certificate be covered on the medical card for the over 70's scheme. [21016/01]

Certificates required by employers to cover the absence of their employees due to illness are the only certificates covered under the medical card scheme. It is not my intention to extend the list of services available to persons aged 70 years and over, or indeed to any other category of medical card holder, to include the cost of the certificate required when applying for a driving licence.
