Written Answers. - Hospitals Building Programme.

Billy Timmins

Ceist:

648 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Health and Children the plans he has to upgrade or develop St. Columcilles Hospital, Loughlinstown, Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22487/01]

As the Deputy is aware, my colleague, Deputy Hanafin, Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children, with special responsibility for children, announced in July 2000 approval to a grant of £5 million for the upgrading of facilities at St. Columcille's Hospital. This development will include an extension to the existing accident and emergency department and the development of a new day procedures unit. A project team is in place to oversee this work. I am satisfied that this investment will contribute to the enhancement of accident and emergency and day surgery services at the hospital.

The further enhancement of facilities at St. Columcille's Hospital is a matter for consideration in the first instance by the Eastern Regional Health Authority. I have therefore asked the regional chief executive of the authority to investigate the matter raised and respond directly to the Deputy as a matter of urgency.

651 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Health and Children the progress in relation to the capital development programme at Cavan General Hospital; the range of additional facilities to be provided; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22515/01]
