Vol. 541 No. 2

Written Answers. - Local Authority Grants.

Pat Carey

Ceist:

693 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has received an application for additional funding from a company (details supplied) through the Eastern Regional Health Authority to allow the authority to provide for the payment of additional central heating grants; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21466/01]

The special housing aid for the elderly scheme is operated by the health boards in line with various guidelines and instructions issued from time to time by the task force who administer the scheme under the aegis of my Department. A total of £1.28 million for the operation of the scheme was allocated to the Eastern Regional Health Authority for 2001.

My Department understands from the authority that while the overall funding has not been exhausted the total allocation apportioned by them to undertake work connected with heating has been used. However, the authority has been requested to consider this matter further and to make some additional funding available for the provision of heating.
