Vol. 541 No. 2

Written Answers. - Swimming Pool Projects.

Liam Aylward

Ceist:

974 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the progress regarding the construction of a new swimming pool in Kilkenny; and the amount of grant-aid likely to be allocated to this project. [21726/01]

Under the local authority swimming pool programme administered by my Department, there are four stages in a swimming pool project which in order are: preliminary report stage; contract document stage; tender stage and construction stage.

Following the completion of a feasibility study on swimming pool provision in the county, Kilkenny Corporation decided to construct a new pool rather than refurbish the existing pool. My Department has approved the appointment of consultants for the preliminary report stage of this proposal. Further consideration will be given to the proposal when this report is available. Grant-aid is not allocated to any project under the programme until such time as tenders are received.

Michael Bell

Ceist:

975 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the situation regarding Drogheda swimming pool; the size of the replacement pool; the cost involved; when construction will commence; the approximate building time; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21727/01]

Under the local authority swimming pool programme administered by my Department, there are four stages in a swimming pool project which in order are: preliminary report stage; contract document stage; tender stage and construction stage.

In April 2000, I approved the preliminary report submitted by Drogheda Corporation in relation to the proposed refurbishment of Drogheda swimming pool. However, following assessment of the pool by consultants appointed by the corporation, my Department has been informed that the corporation now intends to submit a revised preliminary report for a new pool on the existing site, rather than proceed with their original refurbishment proposal. On receipt of the revised preliminary report my Department will consider the matter further.
