Vol. 541 No. 2

Written Answers. - Teaching Service.

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

1094 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 124 of 31 March 1999, he will indicate when incremental credit for teaching service abroad will be sanctioned in respect of a person (details supplied) in County Wexford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21747/01]

Seven years incremental credit, which was the maximum allowable in respect of pre vious teaching service under the terms of agreed reports 9/79 and 4/85 of the Conciliation Council for Teachers, was awarded to the person referred to by the Deputy with effect from 1 August 1997. Revised criteria for the award of incremental credit in respect of previous teaching service have recently been agreed at the conciliation council. It is expected that the circular authorising the implementation of the revised criteria will issue shortly. The position of the teacher in question will be reviewed at that stage in order to determine whether he qualifies for the award of further incremental credit.
