Vol. 541 No. 4

Written Answers. - Holiday Pay.

Dan Neville

Ceist:

445 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Education and Science when holiday pay will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Limerick. [22715/01]

Holiday pay for part-time special needs assistants is based on 8% of the total number of hours worked in a particular school year. The relevant period in the case raised by the Deputy is the 2000-01 school year. Due to the fact that special needs assistants were paid directly by schools authorities from September 2000 to March 2001 and by way of a new payroll introduced in my Department from April 2001 to the end of the last school year, it has been necessary to undertake a manual calculation of holiday pay entitlements for all part-time special needs assistants, including the person referred to by the Deputy.

Because of the large number of cases involved, some delay has arisen in making the necessary payments. However, my Department is making every effort to ensure that all payments issue as speedily as possible.

Question No. 446 answered with Question No. 137.
