Vol. 542 No. 1

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Recruitment.

Willie Penrose

Ceist:

69 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Defence if, further to parliamentary Question No. 268 of 3 October 2001, he will clarify when the person concerned received a full explanation in relation to the difficulties experienced with his application for enlistment to the Permanent Defence Forces; if he will ensure that a comprehensive explanation is furnished to this person; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23617/01]

As I indicated in my reply to Question No. 268 of 3 October 2001, the difficulty with the application for enlistment has been fully explained to the individual concerned. On 23 September he was advised that he had failed his medical examination and that any further information on the results could be obtained from the medical aid post in Custume Barracks, Athlone.

The person concerned contacted that office on 23 September and discussed the matter with personnel management officer. He was further invited to contact the doctor at that post should he require any further clarification of the position in relation to his failure of the medical. He has not to date been in contact with the doctor.
