Comhairle na nOspidéal is a statutory body established under the Health Act, 1970. The main function of comhairle is to regulate the number and type of consultant and senior registrar appointments and to specify qualifications for these posts. As the Deputy will be aware the Government is currently reviewing all aspects of the health service in the context of the preparation of a new health strategy. This review will include the role of statutory agencies such as Comhairle na nOspidéal.
