Vol. 543 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Accommodation.

Charles Flanagan

Ceist:

221 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Education and Science his views on the need for improved accommodation of a new school at Charleville national school, Tullamore, County Offaly; and the way in which he will remedy the situation. [25711/01]

The property management section of the Office of Public Works has been asked to acquire a site for the school in question. However, the site acquisition has not yet been finalised. Architectural planning for the new three-classroom school is at an advanced stage. Because the long-term enrolments of a school are the main factor in determining the extent and type of accommodation to be provided, my Department is undertaking an assessment of the enrolments at present.

In the meantime, my Department has authorised the school to undertake essential repairs to the temporary accommodation at the school. My Department is also prepared to consider grant-aid in respect of any necessary repairs to the permanent structure.
