Vol. 543 No. 2

Written Answers. - Employment of People with Disabilities.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

487 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has carried out a survey of local authorities to ensure that they are complying with the regulation regarding the employment of disabled workers; and the percentage of the workforce in each local authority with disabilities. [26082/01]

The information sought is obtained as part of the annual staffing returns submitted by local authorities to my Department. On the basis of the staffing returns furnished for 1999, the latest year for which complete figures are available, the position in relation to the local authorities under each manager is set out in the following table. Overall, employment of persons with disabilities represents 2.9% of the local government workforce.
