Vol. 543 No. 2

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

531 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of affordable or local authority houses built, made available, sold or tenanted to eligible applicants in the last 12 months to date; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26741/01]

Jack Wall

Ceist:

549 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of social housing that local authorities have obtained in each of the past two years; if he has satisfied himself with this number; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26947/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 531 and 549 together.

Information relating to the number of affordable and local authority dwellings completed or acquired, the number of local authority houses sold and the number of first time lettings of dwellings for each local authority are published in my Department's quarterly and annual bulletins of housing statistics, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library.

Housing output from the local authority housing programme together with output from the complementary social housing programmes of voluntary, affordable and shared ownership housing along with vacancies occurring in the existing local authority housing stock enabled the housing needs of 9,207 and 8,657 households to be met in 1999 and 2000 respectively. I expect that the needs of around 11,000 households will be met this year.

Ceist:

532 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the extent to which he has monitored developments in regard to waiting lists for local authority houses; the extent to which waiting lists have been reduced; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26742/01]

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

568 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has given any instructions in the past six months to the various local authorities in an effort to address housing problems; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26982/01]

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

570 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will declare a housing emergency with a view to making a serious impact on the number of people seeking local authority or affordable housing; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26984/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 532, 568 and 570 together.

I refer to the reply to Questions Nos. 86, 104, 112 and 136 on today's Order Paper.
