Vol. 543 No. 2

Written Answers. - Special Areas of Conservation.

Ulick Burke

Ceist:

630 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if she will sanction the rebuilding of a farm boundary wall by a person (details supplied) in County Galway; if she will withdraw a summons issued in error; and the ways in which issues such as this can be resolved in a practical manner. [26267/01]

Officials of Dúchas, the heritage service of my Department, are always available to meet with landowners to discuss and advise on any proposed works within designated conservation areas. Attempts are made to facilitate landowners as much as possible while ensuring the conservation objectives of these sites are maintained. The summons in question relates to alleged damage to and removal of a priority habitat, within a designated area. As this matter is before the courts the Deputy will appreciate that it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.
