Vol. 543 No. 2

Written Answers. - Victim Impact Reports.

Alan Shatter

Ceist:

686 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he has any proposals to extend the use of victim impact reports in the determination of the sentence to be imposed on persons convicted of criminal offences; and his views on whether the law in this area is in need of reform. [26354/01]

I have no proposals at present to extend the use of victim impact reports beyond those categories set out in the Criminal Justice Act, 1993. Any decision to do so will be made by the Government following consideration of all the issues and will be announced in the usual way.
