Vol. 543 No. 2

Written Answers. - National Development Plan.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

825 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Education and Science the amount of money which has been allocated and spent to date by his Department in each county under the national development plan. [26546/01]

As the Deputy will be aware the country was divided in 1999 into two regions namely the southern and eastern region and the Border, midlands and west region. In general, many programmes in the education sector are delivered on a national basis. My Department has provided provisional expenditure returns in respect of all NDP measures, for both the S and E and the BMW regions, to the respective operational programme managing authorities.

The provisional expenditure returns by region, in respect of measures funding under the 2000-06 NDP, are as follows:

Region

Jan-Dec 2000

Jan-Jun 2001

Total

BMW

£138m (176m)

£81m (103m)

£219m (279m)

S&E

£478m (607m)

£247m (314m)

£725m (921m)

As regards the specific information requested by the Deputy in relation to the allocations-expenditure at county level, in respect of NDP measures, due to the wide range of programmes in the education sector, it would require an inordinate amount of official time to answer the question in the detail requested. However, if the Deputy has any queries regarding a specific measure, I will be happy to seek to obtain the information for him.
