Vol. 544 No. 4

Written Answers. - Deportation Orders.

Austin Deasy

Ceist:

231 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of deportation orders which have been issued in respect of illegal immigrants; the number of orders which have been enforced; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29224/01]

I am informed that the figures sought by the Deputy in regard to illegal immigrants are as set out in the following table. The figures for deportation orders issued in 1997 and 1998 are not readily available but will be forwarded to the Deputy very shortly.

Since the Immigration Act, 1999, came into force in November of 1999, I have made over 2,700 deportation orders in respect of unsuccessful asylum applicants and illegal immigrants. 500 of these orders have already been enforced.
