Vol. 544 No. 5

Written Answers. - Northern Ireland Issues.

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

51 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he has sought or received a report from the British Authorities regarding the progress of the investigation into the murder of a person (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29239/01]

The Government has raised its concerns about the murder of Martin O'Hagan with the British authorities through the framework of the British-Irish Intergovernmental Conference on a number of occasions, most recently in this past week. The police investigation is ongoing and there have been no arrests thus far.

On 12 October last, when the Secretary of State specified the UDA, UFF and LVF and declared that their ceasefires were over, Dr. Reid stated that one of the reasons for the inclusion of the LVF in his announcement was that he was in possession of clear information indicating the involvement of the LVF in the despicable murder of Martin O'Hagan. We have been assured that the security forces will do all within their power to bring the perpetrators of this dreadful act to justice. We have asked to be kept fully informed of developments in the investigation into this murder.
