Vol. 544 No. 5

Written Answers. - Pension Payments.

David Stanton

Ceist:

69 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the amount being paid to former employees of a company (details supplied) by way of pensions and/or other payments; the number of employees involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29442/01]

Prior to its liquidation in November 1984, Irish Shipping Limited had been paying ex-gratia pensions to certain of its former employees. On the appointment of a liquidator, these payments ceased. In order to avoid hardship on the part of the pensioners affected, the Government decided in 1985 to take over payment of the ex-gratia pensions. A sum of £25,000 was paid out to that purpose in 2000. There are currently ten former employees of Irish Shipping Limited receiving payments.
