Written Answers. - Housing Grants.

Ulick Burke

Ceist:

130 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when a payment of a grant for a thatched house will be made to a person (details supplied) in County Galway; and if it has been revised upwards; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30135/01]

Following a recent inspection in this case the amount of the grant has been revised upwards and payment will issue shortly.

Ceist:

131 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when a new house grant payment will be made to a person (details supplied) in County Galway; the reason for the delay in re-assessing the original decision; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30136/01]

A new house grant is payable to a first time purchaser of a new house who fulfils the conditions of the grants scheme which require, inter alia, that the applicant occupies the dwelling on completion as their normal place of residence. Despite numerous attempts by inspectors of my Department, by notification of appointment, letter, telephone calls and visits, they were unable to meet with the applicant at the house. It is open to the applicant to contact the Department with a view to meeting with an inspector and having the matter further considered.
