Vol. 545 No. 4

Written Answers. - Community Welfare Offices.

Austin Deasy

Ceist:

278 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason for the delay in providing new suitable accommodation to replace the community welfare office at Mary Street, Dungarvan, County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30992/01]

The provision of accommodation to meet the needs of local communities, including accommodation for community welfare services, within its functional area is a matter for each health board, including the Eastern Regional Health Authority. In the case of Dungarvan, County Waterford, this responsibility rests with the South-Eastern Health Board. As with each of the other boards, the South-Eastern Health Board has been notified of the annual indicative funding available under the National Development Plan 2001-2006 to facilitate the financing of capital projects, including the provision of new accommodation. The identification and prioritisation of projects which may proceed within the indicative funding is a matter for the health board. In the circumstances my Department has asked the chief executive officer of the South-Eastern Health Board to reply directly to the Deputy as a matter of urgency.
