Vol. 546 No. 1

Written Answers. - Alternative Enterprises Scheme.

Liam Aylward

Ceist:

81 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if he will review an application by a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny under the scheme of investment aid in alternative enterprises; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31255/01]

An application under the scheme of alternative enterprises, housing-handling facilities, was received from the person named in the local office of my Department in Waterford on 12 March. When the application was examined a number of defects were found. In addition, further clarification is necessary from the applicant in relation to other information indicated in his application.

I will now list some of the defects found and information that requires further clarification. The application states 0.75 hectares owned and nine hectares rented. The applicant's area aid declaration for 2001 shows 5.5 hectares farmed. The exact area owned must be clarified. Proposed investment works require planning permission and plans for a dung stead were not included in the application. A dung stead is essential for animal waste storage in respect of this application. An agreed assessment of tax liability issued by the Revenue Commissioners for tax year ended 5 April was omitted. If the applicant cannot obtain this document in the near future alternative documentation may be submitted as follows: an income tax computation-statement of the computation-accounts for tax year, ended 5 April and certified by an accountant-tax consultant; or if the applicant is a PAYE taxpayer his P60 for the tax year ended 5 April, together with a letter from his accountant-tax consultant confirming that he had no other off-farm income for the tax year mentioned.

The application has been returned to the person named. If his agricultural consultant-planner rectifies the errors indicated and provides satisfactory clarification in relation to the other information sought, it will be open to the applicant to resubmit his application to my Department where it will be examined again.
