Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Website.

Ceist:

82 Dr. Upton asked the Taoiseach the number of hits received by his Department's website for 2001; the number of staff assigned to maintain the website; the cost of maintaining the website for 2001; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1099/02]

A composite figure is not available for the number of hits on my Department's website in 2001. The annual number of hits is estimated at 5.25 million based on records for six months during the year.

One member of staff at executive officer level is assigned to maintain the website, with assistance from the IT unit on technical matters as required.

An expense of £4,800 was incurred to make my Department's website compliant with WAI level 1 accessibility guidelines. These are universal principles for publishing information on the Internet which includes the promotion of a high degree of usability for people with disabilities.
My Department is in the process of developing a new website. In addition, the public service modernisation website is being redeveloped. To date approximately £50,000 has been spent on this project.
